Carboxytherapy under the eyes for dark circles

Carboxytherapy under the eyes is a short series of tiny CO2 injections aimed at the most common cause of dark circles: sluggish circulation showing through thin skin. Each session draws fresh, oxygen-rich blood into the area and builds collagen, so the shadow fades a little more every time. At Neoderma, most under-eye plans run 4–6 sessions.

Bluish, brown or hollow: which dark circles does carboxytherapy treat?

Not every dark circle has the same cause, and the cause decides the treatment. Many people have more than one type, which is why the first step is an in-person look at your under-eyes.

Types of dark circle and what usually helps each one
Type of circleWhat is behind itWhat usually helps
Bluish or shadowySlow circulation lets oxygen-poor blood show through the thin skin. The most common type.Carboxytherapy is the targeted treatment.
BrownPigment (melanin) in the skin itself.Carboxytherapy together with pigment care such as laser resurfacing and a brightening routine.
HollowA tear trough that has lost volume casts a shadow.Dermal filler, sometimes with carboxytherapy for skin quality.

Neoderma's own guide to carboxytherapy for dark circles walks through the same three types from the treatment room.

How does under-eye carboxytherapy treatment work?

Nowhere is skin thinner than under the eyes, so whatever sits beneath it shows. When blood moves slowly there, it gives up its oxygen, darkens and tints the skin blue. With fewer collagen fibers as the years pass, the skin turns more see-through still.

A very fine needle places small amounts of medical-grade CO2 along the under-eye area. The body reads the rise in carbon dioxide as a request for oxygen and floods the area with fresh blood, the Bohr effect at work. Two things follow. The stale, oxygen-poor blood behind the blue tint is cleared, and new collagen gradually thickens the skin, so it hides more of what lies under it. The gas itself is breathed out minutes later.

How many under-eye sessions, and does it hurt?

Plan on 4–6 sessions, about a month apart. Many people see some brightening after the first; the bigger change comes as the sessions add up, because each one builds on the circulation and collagen of the last. An occasional maintenance session afterwards helps hold the result.

Comfort is rarely the issue. Numbing cream goes on before the small injections, and most people describe a short pressure or tingling while the gas spreads. There is nothing to recover from: the most anyone usually sees afterwards is some pinkness or a few tiny needle marks, and they fade within a couple of hours. At Neoderma the treatment is used on all skin types, including sensitive skin.

“I recently got Carboxy Therapy done for dark circles under my eyes and am so excited with the results! You could see the darkness even under heavy concealer before I started getting the treatment, and now notice such a difference with each treatment I get. My dark circles are disappearing, and my eyes look so much brighter!”

Under-eye questions

Is carboxytherapy effective for dark circles under the eyes?

For the circulation type, the bluish or shadowy circle, it is one of the few treatments aimed at the cause rather than covering it up. Each session brings fresh, oxygen-rich blood to the under-eye area and builds collagen, so the shadow fades a little more every time and the thin skin there gets thicker.

How many carboxytherapy under eye treatments do dark circles need?

At Neoderma the under-eye area is usually planned as 4–6 sessions, about a month apart. Many people see some brightening after the first one; the larger change arrives as the sessions add up, and an occasional maintenance session helps hold it.

Is carboxytherapy under the eyes painful?

Very little. Numbing cream goes on first, and most people feel only a short pressure or light tingling while the gas spreads, gone within minutes. No downtime follows; any pinkness or tiny needle marks fade within a couple of hours.

Carboxytherapy or filler: what if my circles come from pigment or hollowing?

Then carboxytherapy alone is usually not the whole answer. Brown, pigment-type shadows also call for pigment care such as laser resurfacing and a brightening routine, and a hollow tear trough that casts a shadow is usually a job for dermal filler, which is sometimes paired with carboxytherapy to improve the skin itself. A provider identifies your type in person, and the treatments are often combined.

Find out which type of dark circle you have.

Neoderma's medical providers look at the under-eye area in person and tell you whether carboxytherapy, filler, pigment care or a combination is the right plan. If carboxytherapy suits you, the first session can often follow the consultation the same day.
